The successful staging of the annual Bloem Show translates to positive economic spin-offs for the hosting city of Bloemfontein and the Free State. This is according to Elmarie Prinsloo, chief executive officer (CEO) of Bloem Show, speaking at the launched of the 141th edition of the show on Wednesday, 17 April, under the theme “Around the World”.
Prinsloo said the Bloem Show, regarded the biggest fun fair in central southern Africa, generates income in various forms through spending by visitors and brand companies exhibiting their products over the course of ten days.
“Bloem Show generates approximately a R50 million income, which is generated through the creation of temporary employment opportunities for people and various established brand companies, as well as exhibitors during the ten days. There is a return on investment, to Bloem Show in forming partnership with banking entities to sustain the show as a brand, to empowering Africa’s tomorrow,” said Prinsloo.
She said the successful staging of the Bloem Show annually continues the celebration of a milestone story.
“This is a good story of Bloem Show’s continuation since its founding in 1883 by a group of agriculturalists who undertook the task of assembling an agricultural exhibition,” said Prinsloo.
The group of pioneering agriculturists persevered to transform the project into a catalyst for socio-economic development and growth, by showcasing numerous activities and products.
The province’s rich soil and pleasant climate made it possible for a thriving agricultural initiative.
This year’s instalment of the diverse consumer event will officially commence on Thursday, 25 April, and continue until 4 May in Bloemfontein. In total, there were reportedly 107 464 visitors who attended the 2023 edition of the show which ran from 27 April until 6 May.
