All major routes to the Overberg, including Clarence Drive, which was closed after heavy rainfall and strong winds lashed the area, are open. A number of smaller roads, however, have been closed due to flooding.
The Overberg District Municipality reported early this morning that the Buffeljagsrivier Bridge outside Swellendam remained closed. A number of secondary roads, including the Papiesvlei Road near Stanford, Grashoek Road in the Bredasdorp area, the Melkbos Road in the Napier area and the Pebbles Road, have been closed. The Nachtwacht Bridge, outside Bredasdorp and the Pont at Malgas, are also closed.
The Cape Agulhas Municipality stated that although the road between Bredasdorp and Struisbaai is flooded, this road is still open to traffic. The municipality emphasised that motorists using this road do so at their own risk.
Premier Alan Winde and Overberg District Executive Mayor Sakkie Franken conducted a site visit at the part of the N2 near Bot River, which washed away during September’s storm and were pleased to find that the road withstood the recent inclement weather.
