Komani-born businessman, Masonwabe Fuma has been nominated for yet another award at the 2024 Emere Africa Awards.

The 2024 Emerge Africa Awards is an initiative and movement aimed at honouring and celebrating a cross-section of the continent’s most influential individuals, brands, and organisations from a wide range of industries who are making a difference on the African continent.

Fuma is a marketing maven, global business speaker, multi-award-winning entrepreneur, and investor, facilitator, and activist.

He is the managing director of Sakhulutsha eAfrika, a social enterprise for youth development, advisory, local enterprise, and research.

In 2019, Stepping Stone Junior School (his alma mater) introduced the Masonwabe Fuma Excellence Award, awarded to a grade 7 learner who has achieved excellence throughout their junior school life.

"I have a deep commitment to social justice, and I’m seeking it for all who are marginalised and in squalor conditions, and this I do through the various projects I am involved in. I’m a foot soldier in this long relay of Africa’s development, and so I try to respond to existing problems with practical programmes, projects, and initiatives. In doing so, I also encourage progressive professionals and businesses to play an active role. Nowhere in the history of this world have we seen countries come out of the quagmire without the assistance of business," he said.

Fuma said he was looking at ways to empower youth in the Chris Hani District Municipal area.

The 30-year-old entrepreneur runs the Sakhulutsha eAfrika enterprise which is aimed at youth development, local enterprise, advisory, and research.

He has a wide range of work already done in the youth development space and across the country with programmes such as the Masonwabe Fuma Bursary Fund, Masonwabe Fuma Excellence Awards, and Leadership and Entrepreneurship Talks.

"We are now looking at ways of empowering young people in the Chris Hani District in 2024, that is Grade 12 Leadership Development and Career Guidance Programmes along with the Isiqalo Rugby Coaching Clinic targeted at young people who are under 16 from selected schools within the district focusing on Komani, Lady Frere, Cala, Cofimvaba and Engcobo," Fuma said.

Fuma is requesting that people vote for him to bring the award home.

"The awards have a voting portal, where the public can vote. I’m humbly requesting that the public vote for me to bring this award home by SMSing ‘AFRICA 108’ to 37587. Each SMS costs R5 and free SMSs don’t apply. The voting line opened on January 15, 2024, and will close on March 30, 2024. The award ceremony will take place in Johannesburg in April 2024, where the winners will be announced,” said Fuma.

He said his generation had a duty to navigate and to reach out to all opportunities that are availed.

Inner abilities, he said, skills, and talents need to start charting new pathways of opportunity if the current is stifled and contested.

"You’ve got to understand that your generation will assume top leadership positions in this country in the not-so-far away future, and that you have more potential than you could ever imagine,” said Fuma.
