The second season of “Survivor – Tribal Wars”, organised and hosted by the Global Leadership Academy, recently took place and was filmed at a remote location within the Kouga region.
This season again abandoned a group of 20 GLA Grade 11 learners, and separated them into two tribes that, for five days, had to outwit, outplay, and outlast the opposing tribe to eventually win season two of “Survivor – Tribal Wars”.
Similar to the original TV series, participants have to work together as a tribe to overcome great obstacles in order for them to successfully make it to the last day.
This year they stepped it up a notch, with even more surprising twists, bigger challenges, and more elements of the game that encourages teamwork and an awareness of one’s own strengths and weaknesses.
The 20 participants were tested in all aspects, and were given only rations of rice to eat, and their own shelters to build. The different reward challenges afforded the winning tribes some much-needed additional fishing gear, blankets and food.
Losing immunity challenges sent a tribe to tribal council, where they were forced to vote for the “player of the day” on the opposing tribe, which resulted in the crowning of a sole survivor at the end of the game.
To win as a team, they had to collect the most immunity tokens throughout the game play. Tokens were awarded to a team after winning a challenge, and teams were also able to win tokens through advantages, or sheer determination to find clues and search for tokens.
“Survivor – Tribal Wars” forms an important part of the Leadership Development Programme at GLA. Throughout the game, participants are mentored and facilitated to discover their God-given potential and leadership abilities. They are forced to trust fellow students and to work together as they face some tremendous difficulties, all within a safe environment conducive to leadership development.
It is rare that this kind of experience can be duplicated in any other way, and for the school it is a key opportunity for learners to develop themselves.
Like the original Survivor series, participants are filmed almost 24-hours a day, and the footage is currently being produced into a five-episode YouTube series, which will be showcased at the “Survivor – Tribal Wars LIVE” premier event on May 3, at 18:00 at GLA.
The public is invited to join this very special evening, where they will also be able to meet the participants, and be the first to see which team “won” a very exciting season.
The entire season will also be made available on the Global Leadership Academy YouTube channel within a week or two after the live premier.
