Police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo confirmed that police are close on the heels of an illegal traditional surgeon known only as Brutus, who allegedly illegally circumcised eight boys who are under 15 years at the Vlei Administrative area in Lusikisiki.
He said a case of unlawful circumcision in an illegal circumcision school was opened at Mtontsasa Police Station in Lusikisiki on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
According to him, eight initiates who were illegally circumcised were rescued in this school and were taken to the health care facility for proper medical checkups at about 04:00.
“It is alleged that the suspect recruited boys who were under 15 years old and circumcised them without any protocol being followed. Police received information about the illegal circumcision school, and other stakeholders were summoned; Community Policing Forum (CPF) and local traditional leaders joined hands and burnt the initiation school,” said Matyolo. He said the illegal traditional surgeon ran away and has not yet been arrested, but police are close on his heels.
