Ngangelizwe Township author, Mkhanyiseli Sobuza, is in desperate need of funds to print his book in large numbers, and have it converted into braille.
According to Sobuza, the book titled The Rainbow is a Point of View, has been in the post-production stage since September 2021, and is still only available directly from him due to lack of funds to have it printed in bulk, and made available to bookstores across the country.
Sobuza describes the book as a fusion of romance and adventure.
“This is a boy-meets-girl coming-of-age kind of story that commences at a boarding high school in the late 1980s to 1987, to be precise.
“The story revolves around two characters, Kholisile (16), who hails from a humble family from Ngangelizwe Township in Mthatha, and Ntombikayise (15), from a wealthy family.”
“Their romance encounters some difficulties towards the end of 1989, leaving Kholi so distraught he finds it challenging to properly relate with other women,” said Sobuza.
“Ntombikayise goes on to study with the University of the Western Cape the following year, and Kholi ends up doing odd jobs at a pharmacy in town, unable to afford varsity fees. He remains on the lookout for bursary opportunities, even as he wonders what he could have done better in defence of their relationship,” added Sobuza.
He says he drafted the book as far back as in the mid-1990s whilst between jobs, for his children to read when they are old enough.
Sobuza exhausted all his savings to fund the publishing of the book.
