Police confirmed that two children, a boy and a girl, aged three years old, drowned in a local dam at Ludaka locality in Ngqeleni on November 11, 2023.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Welile Matyolo, it is alleged that the children, while playing in the water, failed to re-surface, and the other child with them went home and reported to the elders.

"A search was launched, and the children were found later in the afternoon, floating in the dam," said Matyolo.

“A search was launched, and the bodies of the victims were found floating on the dam. An inquest docket was opened for investigation. Police are urging parents not to allow their children to swim in dams unsupervised,” he added.
