The Western Cape traffic authorities are offering the public free ten-point vehicle safety checks before scores take to the roads for the Easter weekend.

The Western Cape Government is offering free ten-point vehicle checks by qualified examiners from Saturday 23 March to Thursday 28 March, at venues in Drakenstein and Cape Town.

The public is invited to take up this opportunity to check that your vehicle is roadworthy.

The aim is not to catch anyone out, but to help detect potential problems before you hit the road for long-distance travel, but you and your loved ones to travel safely over this holiday period.

The free ten-point vehicle inspection covers essential components such as tyres, brakes, lights, suspension, CV joints, electrical systems, exhaust, wipers, licence discs, and more.

In partnership with Private Testing Centres and local authorities, the department has made these tests easily accessible to a wide range of motorists:

Gene Louw Traffic Training College (Brackenfell Boulevard, Brackenfell)

23 March: 08:00 – 15:00

25 to 26 March: 10:00 – 20:00

27 March: 08:00 – 15:00

Drakenstein Municipal Traffic Centres (c/o Jan Van Riebeek and Edison Road, Paarl)

23 March: 08:00 – 14:00

Airport Vehicle Testing Centres (AVTS)

23 March: 08:00 – 12:00

25 to 28 March: 08:00 – 16:30

Ricardo Mackenzie, Western Cape Minister of Mobility said that March has been a devasting month with multiple fatal traffic crashes on our roads.

“As the school holiday begins and families prepare to travel, we all need to take responsibility for road safety. Let’s make this Easter holiday a time of joy and safety on Western Cape roads.

“Our various Traffic Management teams are ready for this busy period and we will do our best to keep residents and visitors safe on the roads. Heightened provincial traffic law enforcement will include high visibility patrols targeting moving violations, interprovincial corridor operations, K78 roadblocks focused on ‘exodus’ traffic, and fatigue management interventions.”
