The body of a man, said to be a theft and vandalism suspect, was recovered at the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Driftsands Wastewater Treatment Works in Forest Hill this morning, November 1.
This comes after the metro's security officers chased after two men last night, who illegally entered the municipal facility.
According to NMBM spokesperson, Mamela Ndamase, the two were suspects of theft and vandalism. "During the chase, one of the men reportedly jumped into a wastewater reactor while the other one managed to escape. The incident was reported to the SAPS, who then dispatched teams on Monday night, however, the man was not found," she said.
The follow-up search and rescue operation confirmed a case of drowning after the body was recovered today by key role players present.
A criminal case has been opened with police in Humewood.
