The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and South African Police Services (SAPS) have confirmed Gqeberha man, Colin Kannemeyer (58), has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty for the brutal murder of his wife Cheryl-Ann (61) in December last year.
Cheryl-Ann Kannemeyer, who was a well-known local estate agent, was found fatally wounded inside her car at the couples' home in Beetlestone Road, Gelvandale, on December 27, 2023.
Earlier this month when Kannemeyer expressed the intent to plead guilty to the murder, his son, Dexter Kannemeyer, said to PE Express, "It's the right thing to do. He needs to do the time for the crime he committed. We need closure".
Taking to social media after his father's sentencing, Dexter wrote: "To everyone in my inbox and commenting on these news publications... you guys will never understand the abnormal situation my siblings and I find ourselves in. Not only were we robbed of our dearest mother but we were also robbed of a father.
