One of Nelson Mandela Bay’s oldest rugby clubs, Eastern RFC, held their end of season awards function at Madiba Bay Baptist Church in KwaZakhele on November 18, to honour their outstanding players and technical staff for their excellent performance during the EP Rugby Adams Cup League Season.

The players, club supporters, Eastern RFC executive committee members, and parents were in attendance.

Following their outstanding league performance, Eastern RFC will campaign in the topGrand Challenge League in 2024.

Eastern RFC was voted as the best team during the Adams Cup 2023 League Season.

Head coach, Zolani Champ Mati, said that their league success was attributed to dedication and hard-work.

“Everybody worked very hard for the club. We were the one united family, but the road was not easy at all. The games were tough and we managed to reap what we sowed,” said Mati.

The players and technical officers received trophies and certificates of achievement.

The awards were as follows:
  • Senior player of the season and forward of the season:  Vuyolwethu Tshaka)
  • Ladies’ player of the season: Yamkela Funani
  • Junior player of the season: Asanda Tshona
  • Senior coach of the year: Zolani Champ Mati
  • Senior backline player of the year: Solomzi Nomzanga
  • Top try scorer of the season: Abongile Mbambisa
  • Beautiful try of the season: Sinethemba Ntusikaz
  • Most dedicated player of the season: Sakhumzi Putulu
  • Most promising senior player of the season: Kutloano Jafta
