Being teased did not deter Luyolo Menziwa from pursuing her dreams. She poured her heart and soul into pageantry and all her hard work paid off when she was crowned Miss Pre-Teen Gqeberha in July 2023.
“I was overjoyed, and that victory motivated me to keep pushing myself. The journey didn’t stop there. I stumbled upon a huge national event, Miss Teen Universe South Africa, where I’m currently a 2024 Finalist.
“It hasn’t been easy, but I learnt valuable lessons along the way. One of the most important things is to spread positivity and kindness to everyone I meet.
“I refuse to let my insecurities hold me back. I’m an advocate for destitute, abandoned, orphaned, and abused children.
“On September 23, 2023, I visited Sinethemba Children’s Home, to donate food, clothing, and little gifts for children. My heart melted when I saw the smiles on their faces.
“Then at Christmas last year I decided to spend the day with the children of the Eastern Province Children and Youth Care Centre; I brought them cake and Christmas treats, and talked to them.
“The more I spend time in the orphanages, the more I understand that I don’t need to be rich to help the less fortunate, just a kind heart,” the Grade 8 learner said.
