Panorama Primary School brothers Connor McKenzie (12) and Carter McKenzie (10) were both recently selected for the Western Province wrestling team.

Connor is in Grade 6 and Carter is in Grade 4.

Angus McKenzie, their dad and councillor for Ward 50, is a proud parent.

“When Connor turned six and Carter was four they both had a deep love for WWE,” he says.

They joined Parow Wrestling Club in 2016.

“They both love the exercise, they enjoy team sports, meeting new friends and pushing themselves,” he says when asked what they love most about the sport.

Asked about how he feels making the WP Wrestling team, Connor says he feels excited about this achievement and the future possibilities it brings.

“I now understand the difference between real wrestling and not so real wrestling I see on the TV.”

Carter says he feels important, that he is excited about going to the nationals and that he is the best in his age group in the province.

Connor was also selected for WP Rugby u-12.

“This was a huge achievement for me. My dad put a lot of time, effort and training into me and loads of pressure. I love rugby, it is my favourite. Now that I have proven myself at this age group I am so excited about becoming a Springbok,” he says.

Asked about their future plans in these sports, the boys both indicated that they want to play sports for as long as possible and want to represent their country. They say they both love what sports has done for them.

“The friends we have made cannot be replaced. We want to thank our parents, school and club for believing in us,” they say by word of their dad.
