Approximately 200 disgruntled residents staged a protest on Monday 18 March on Valhalla and Owen Drive.
They blocked the roads by burning tyres. Officers of public order police were dispatched to the area. The group then marched to the local police office demanding a meeting with the acting station commander.
This request resulted in a meeting between the police management and a group of the residents.
Provincial police spokesperson WO Joseph Swartbooi says the crowd were pleased with the outcome of the discussions and dispersed at around 16:30.
“We can confirm that no shots were fired by police members. Elsies River police bear no record of any damage to vehicles or property as a result of the protest.”
According to Swartbooi, Elsies River Police registered a case of public violence for further investigation.
