Slain Table View police officer identified as manhunt for suspects continues

  • The Table View police officer who was killed in a shooting in the Site 5 informal settlement on Sunday has bee identified as Capt Linda Buqa.
  • The reason for the shooting still remains unclear.
  • Police are continuing their search for the suspects responsible for the shooting.


Condolences are pouring in for the slain Table View police officer who has now been identified as Capt Linda Buqa.

Buqa was shot and killed in the Site 5 informal settlement in Table View on Sunday 19 November. The reason for the shooting still remains unclear. According to police reports the suspects also fled with the policeman’s firearm. Police are continuing their search for the suspects responsible for the shooting.

Buqa, hailing from Butterworth in the Eastern Cape has two daughters, aged 25 and 20 and two sons aged 25 and 27. He joined the police on 09 September 1993. He was a shift commander and was promoted to the rank of Capt on 1 December 2018 to Table View Police Station. He worked in Centane when he started his career in the police and was later transferred to Butterworth in 1996. In 2005 till 2018 he worked at Cofimvaba Police Station. He held a National diploma in Police Management (1999) and Honores Baccalaureus Artium in Police Science (2001).

“The late Buqa was a quiet man with a large presence. He was tall in stature. His colleagues are preparing a memorial service, and his funeral will take place in the Eastern Cape, the dates for these must still be confirmed,” says Table View police spokesperson, Capt Adriana Chandler.
