While struggling to prevent load shedding and facing intense opposition to corruption investigations, the current Eskom board and executives also have to contend with influential former Eskom boss Matshela Koko, who appears to have maintained a high level of influence at the power utility.
Koko resigned from his job as chief executive at Eskom in February 2018 on the same day a disciplinary hearing into allegations against him was due to commence. He said at the time that he was not admitting guilt and cited personal reasons for the decision.
Last week, detailed responses to questions from News24 relating to an investigation into performance figures during Koko's tenure was apparently leaked to him by Eskom officials.
