External investigators appointed by Johannesburg's Group Forensics and Investigation Services (GFIS) to probe the alleged irregular R27-million Proton House transaction have been obstructed from doing their job.
In a letter to GFIS in January, Phungula Attorneys (PA) said members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) had physically prevented them from entering JPC offices to confiscate devices needed for the investigation.
At the same time, GFIS cancelled critical interviews with officials at the last minute, saying they were "no longer available", while the City of Johannesburg failed to provide essential documentation.
