A desperate plea for help by the board of the battered Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) to the City of Johannesburg amid alleged intimidation by union members has fallen on deaf ears.

In a letter to acting city manager Bryne Maduka earlier this month, the chairperson of the JPC board, advocate Brenda Madumise, described a hostile situation in which it could not function, as officials from the South African Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) were "hell-bent on destroying what remains of the entity".

Madumise implored Maduka to "act swiftly… in arresting the malaise at JPC", adding there existed "rogue elements", violence and intimidation at the City entity. Madumise said that if the situation could not be fixed, the JPC should be placed under administration.
