A secretive process to find the country's next top cop is underway, and sources say among the several top generals vying for command is Khehla Sitole's deputy, Francinah Vuma.
Vuma has been a deputy national commissioner since she was promoted by Sitole in 2017, one of his first orders of business after his own installation by then-president Jacob Zuma.
News24 can reveal that in searching for a replacement for Sitole, select generals were identified by the Presidency in an ex-cathedra process far from public view, and that interviews began behind closed doors on Monday.
