The story: Monday marks nine years since 34 miners were killed and 78 seriously injured when the police opened fire on protesting miners at Marikana, North West. We take a look at what has been done since the incident. 

The details: To date, few of the recommended police reforms have been implemented, and only nine police officers had been charged. 

What we know: The massacre followed a week of intense protest where an estimated 3 000 miners demanded that the wage at the Lonmin platinum mine increase to R12 500 per month.
