Monday marks nine years since 34 miners were killed and 78 seriously injured when the police opened fire on protesting miners at Marikana, North West.
The incident became known as the Marikana massacre.
The South African government is set to mark the event through the Department of Minerals Resources and Energy, who will again engage in activities in commemoration of the Marikana Massacre, News24 previously reported.
