The Financial Services Conduct Authority fined Markus Jooste R475 million before he died by suicide, while this week it fined a crypto advocate R216 million. Commissioner Unathi Kamlana invites Muhammad Hussain to Tshwane to discuss Jooste, fines and Kamlana's leadership skills.
The news of Markus Jooste's suicide the day after the Financial Services Conduct Authority (FSCA) imposed the largest fine on an individual, R475 million, came as a shock to the regulator.
Commissioner Unathi Kamlana said in his cool, considerate, and courtly voice "this came as a surprise" because the industry body had been engaging with Jooste on this matter for more than a year, while investigating him for at least six years.
