Public transport in South Africa has its fair share of challenges, yet it's an important means of transportation for hundreds of thousands of people. According to Statistics SA's 2020 National Household Travel Survey, those surveyed collectively took 45 million trips – mostly on foot – during the seven days leading up to the survey. It's therefore clear how important access to safe and reliable public transport is – and the Gautrain strives to meet this expectation.
The Gautrain is primarily focused on providing a comprehensive public transport system that enables and promotes the long-term sustainable economic growth of Gauteng. The aim is to encourage people to use this transport for everything they deem important.
Whether you're planning on visiting a friend, doing your monthly grocery shopping, on your way to school or having a night out, the Gautrain provides a convenient, safe service with various routes and regions in Gauteng. Whatever your journey may require, the Gautrain is an easily accessible option which is also designed with inclusivity in mind. There are provisions for mobility, the trains are wheelchair-friendly and there are measures in place for sight- and hearing-impaired passengers. Guide dogs are also allowed onboard for visually impaired passengers.
The Gautrain offers excellent service to fit the needs of all passengers. All you need to do, is find the station closest to you.
