The Constitutional Court has given the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party until Thursday to file answering papers if it wants to oppose the Electoral Commission of SA's (IEC) appeal against an Electoral Court decision relating to MK Party leader Jacob Zuma's participation in the elections.

In his short directive to the MK Party, Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said the respondents opposing the application must file answering affidavits on or before Thursday.

The IEC initially upheld an objection to Zuma's candidacy due to his criminal record for contempt of court, citing Section 47 of the Constitution, which disqualifies a party candidate who was sentenced to more than 12 months in prison, without the option of a fine, from contesting a seat as a member of Parliament.
