Presidency says it is committed to implementing SIU recommendations

The Presidency says legislative changes to the Public Procurement Bill will assist in restricting criminally implicated suppliers from doing business with the government.

The director for citizen-based monitoring at the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jonathan Timm, told Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts on Tuesday while progress had been made in implementing Special Investigating Unit (SIU) recommendations, there were challenges.

According to his report: "The poor response to recommendations for restricting suppliers highlights the need for reforms in this area. The legislative changes regarding the debarment of implicated suppliers as part of the Public Procurement Bill are expected to provide the impetus for improvements."
