Shortly after ousted Nongoma Local Municipality IFP mayor Albert Mncwango begrudgingly returned two state vehicles on Friday, the cars were involved in a fresh controversy: the new National Freedom Party (NFP) Mayor Clifford Ndabandaba allegedly drove, with flashing blue lights, home to celebrate his new gig.

The cars were said to have been driven to his village in rural KwaZulu-Natal where family and neighbours ululated while the car's VIP lights flashed. 

The previous mayor, Mncwango, spent days refusing to return "tools of trade", including the two state vehicles, that belonged to the Nongoma council.
