Demolition works on the fire-ravaged National Assembly building will start in April and, in addition to the R2 billion initially allocated for the upgrades, Parliament needs almost R1 billion.
On top of this, the deadline by which the building has to be ready has been moved from November 2025 to February 2026.
On Friday, Secretary to Parliament Xolile George briefed the Joint Standing Committee on Financial Management of Parliament on the restoration project. He was joined by several other officials involved in the project.
