The president of the ANC, Cyril Ramaphosa, told a gathering of the ANC Women's League (ANCWL) in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, on Thursday that the South African government was "duty bound" to approach the International Court of Justice (ICJ) because Israel would not stop the "slaughtering of Palestinians".
Ramaphosa addressed an ANCWL programme at the Elshaddai Tabernacle International Church after the legal team arguing South Africa's genocide case against Israel had concluded its argument at the ICJ in The Hague.
South Africa's main argument to the ICJ is that Israel's actions "are genocidal in character, as they are committed with the requisite specific intent … to destroy Palestinians in Gaza as part of the broader Palestinian national, racial, and ethnic group".
