"Pure criminality, economic sabotage and tantamount to treason" were the words KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube used to describe the violence committed in the ongoing SA Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) strike over pay parity in eThekwini.
Dube-Ncube and eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda held a press briefing on Monday morning against the backdrop of the strike in which City workers are demanding pay on par with workers in Category 10 municipalities, such as the Ekurhuleni metro.
Employees, mostly represented by Samwu, have been on strike since 27 February. Services in the metro have ground to a halt.
