On Friday, Parliament missed the initial deadline set by the Constitutional Court to amend the Electoral Act to allow independent candidates to stand in provincial and national elections.
It was, however, at the eleventh hour given a "lifeline" - as the One South Africa Movement (OSA) puts it - when the apex court extended the deadline by six months to 10 December.
