Residents of Randburg in Johannesburg must call their ward councillor if they have a fire emergency because their fire station has had no telephones for the past two years.
Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman said she had an arrangement with the Randburg fire station when residents called her, and she would get hold of senior management to alert the station.
Harman made an oversight visit to the fire station last week after residents complained they could not get hold of it the previous week when two mini substations burst into flames.
