Western Cape healthcare workers have been placed on alert following an outbreak of German measles, also known as rubella, in Cape Town.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) issued an alert for the outbreak this week.
Rubella symptoms include a rash, low-grade fever, nausea, sore throat, red eyes, headache, cough, runny nose and swollen lymph nodes in the neck. The rash usually starts on the face and neck before spreading to the rest of the body and persists for around five days.
