A university student has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife at a private student residence in Belhar, Cape Town, on Saturday morning.
The 26-year-old woman is a student at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), while her alleged attacker, 30, is a University of Western Cape (UWC) student.
According to UWC, the suspect and the CPUT student are spouses.
In video footage circulating on social media, a male student can be seen stabbing a female student in the stomach while she is lying on the floor next to a pool of blood.

In another video, scores of students can be seen attacking the male student, with some shouting: "That's enough, you'll kill him".
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said that the suspect was arrested and is currently under police guard in hospital.
CPUT spokesperson Lauren Kansley said the university was aware of the incident involving one of its students at a privately owned residence.
"The female CPUT student sustained serious injuries and has been transferred to Tygerberg Hospital for emergency surgery. She is being supported by CPUT management, and at this stage our focus is on her recovery and wellbeing and notifying her family."
The university added that the suspect was expected to appear in court next week.
UWC spokesperson Gasant Abarder told News24 that the incident came at a time when the university pronounced zero tolerance for gender-based violence and condemned any act of gender-based violence and femicide.
"Early reports indicate that the SAPS arrested the perpetrator, and the victim was hospitalised. The university condemns any act of gender-based violence in our society."
UWC added that it would liaise with the police and take immediate action against its student once it receives the relevant details from the SAPS and its own investigating team.
"We confirm our stance that perpetrators of such gender-based violence have no place at our campuses."
The UWC student representative council said it dissociated its community from "such a vile, inhumane and merciless act" and called on the police to bring the perpetrator to book.
Kansley said: "Therapy has been offered to fellow CPUT students who may have been traumatised by this incident, and we will roll out face-to-face counselling next week".
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
