The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has interdicted the University of South Africa (Unisa) from imposing new requirements for candidates vying to become president of the convocation.

This follows an urgent application brought by former student, Simamkele Xani, who was nominated to run for president of the convocation during an election that was scheduled for Monday, but which was subsequently cancelled.

Members of the convocation, consisting of alumni who graduated with a degree or diploma from the institution, are eligible for election as president.
