Electricity has been restored to some parts of the Western Cape after severe weather over the weekend downed seven electricity pylons. However, multiple towns are still without electricity, and provincial authorities are implementing plans to mitigate the effects of the outage.
Eskom said it had started a recovery operation to repair infrastructure that was severely damaged by the inclement weather on Saturday. The power utility said the operation to reconstruct and restore electricity supply was "complex".
News24 reported that on Sunday, Eskom said it was experiencing a major network fault. Gale force winds and heavy rains damaged the Laingsburg/Touwsrivier 132kV power lines, affecting several Western Cape towns.
