  • Free State police are appealing for help in finding Khatliso Edwin Makhetha, who was last seen on 5 May in Meloding, Virginia.
  • Makhetha is a lecturer at the Central University of Technology in Welkom.
  • Police said calls to family and friends about Makhetha’s whereabouts had been in vain.

Free State police have appealed to members of the public to help track down a missing Central University of Technology (CUT) lecturer.

Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said 28-year-old Khatliso Edwin Makhetha was last seen on 5 May in Meloding, Virginia, where he lived with his brother.

"According to his brother Thabo, he thought Khatliso was visiting a friend to watch soccer and he never returned. On Sunday 7 May, Thabo called his brother and the cellphone rang but was not answered," he said.

Thakeng said calls to family and friends about Makhetha’s whereabouts had also delivered no answers.

"They also enquired at his workplace as he is a lecturer in Welkom, but he never pitched at work since his disappearance."

Makhetha’s wife, who lives in Johannesburg, told police she last spoke to her husband on 7 May.

"The room where he resides was searched, and his cellphone and wallet were not found. The missing person left his black Ford Fiesta with registration number HKL 032 FS at home," Thakeng said.

"It is not known what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance."

Anyone with information can contact Detective Sergeant Lucky Nkoala of Meloding Detective Services on cellphone number 082 466 8025 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
