Protesting workers at Gold One mine in Springs claim their colleagues have not been held hostage and they are staging a sit-in willingly.

Gauteng police said the mine's rescue team had evacuated 455 employees to the surface before 13:00 on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said three miners and a security guard received further treatment at a hospital.
