Western Cape MEC for Agriculture Ivan Meyer wants veterinary services included in the Provincial Powers Bill to advance animal and public health and biosecurity.  

The MEC's decision follows media reports of the appalling condition of the 19 000 cattle on board the Al Kuwait live export vessel, which docked in Cape Town from Brazil en route to Iraq, on Sunday night. 

The vessel, which departed on Wednesday morning, caused a stir in Cape Town due to the pungent smell emanating from it.
