The chief of the South African Navy has approved an extension for a board of inquiry to finish an investigation into the SAS Manthatisi tragedy, which resulted in the loss of three navy submarine officers' lives.
In September, three navy officers died off the coast of Kommetjie when a wave swept seven of the eight crew members from the deck of the submarine.
They were identified as Lieutenant Commander Gillian Elizabeth Hector (executive officer), Master Warrant Officer William Masela Mathipa (coxswain) and Warrant Officer Class One Mmokwapa Lucas Mojela (coxswain in training).
