Limpopo police have arrested one of their own after the officer allegedly brutally assaulted his wife on Friday night in Mavhunga Village, which falls under the Mphephu policing precinct in the Vhembe district.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, said preliminary reports indicated that the 46-year-old officer arrived home on Friday just after 22:00 and woke up his wife.

"The two got into a heated argument and the suspect assaulted his wife with his fists until she fell down," said Mashaba.
Police said the victim managed to escape further assault and ran outside the yard to seek help, but the officer allegedly followed her.
"The victim then got assistance from a motorist who gave her a lift to Mphephu police station. A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm [was] opened by the victim. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident," said Mashaba.
According to the police, the suspect, attached to the SAPS Modimolle K9 Unit, is expected to appear before the Dzanani Magistrate's Court "in due course".
Provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the police officer's alleged actions.
Hadebe said:
She added that such behaviour goes against the police's principles.
"Appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken pending the outcome of the investigation, without fear or favour," said Hadebe.
