Despite calling a media briefing to give some clarity on what took place during its highly contested national executive committee (NEC) the ANC delegation failed to give clarity on numerous developments that took place over the weekend.
ANC treasurer general, Paul Mashatile, refused to give clarity on what president Cyril Ramaphosa finally said when he opened up to the NEC on what really happened at his Phala Phala farm.
Mashatile also failed to give deadlines on when the integrity commission would eventually table before the NEC it’s report regarding Phala Phala.
Despite this, the party’s leadership gave a lot of detail on how the ANC is trying to fund the payment of its sizable debt. Mashatile said the party will be selling off some of its assets particularly those in other countries.

Ronald Lamola confirms that there are a variety of constitutional amendments that have been proposed and have to pass the two thirds support from the over 4500 voting delegates who will be attending the conference. He said one such proposed suggestion is the introduction of a second deputy Secretary General position.

Mashatile warns ANC members to refrain from publicly criticising each other or the party's leadership or engaging in confrontational behaviour leading up to the elective conference. The resolution comes after former presidents and senior party leaders have been undertaking public engagements and media addresses at which they have been very critical of the incumbent president and his administration.

Mashatile adds that the ANC's NEC deliberated on the recent congresses of its alliance partners, the SACP and Cosatu at which it's party leaders were booed and refused an audience. He says the ANC’s 55th elective conference will discuss the status of the alliance.

Mashatile makes a commitment that the 55th national elective conference will be more preoccupied by deliberations around improving the lives of the majority black population who still linger in poverty and the improvement of women’s socio-economic status instead of focusing on internal leadership squabbles.

Mashatile says since this was the last ordinary sitting of the NEC, it took the opportunity to deliberate on a wide rage of issues that included the rising cost of living, the state of coalition governments and the party's own internal status.

How Ramaphosa survived Phala Phala onslaught at NEC meeting
President Cyril Ramaphosa was spared at the ANC's national executive committee (NEC) meeting after the integrity commission said it could not deliver its report on the Phala Phala scandal because a draft version was leaked.
The president on Sunday afternoon closed the visibly tense meeting without discussing calls made by top party leaders for him to step aside, given the accusations he faces. For much of two days, the meeting heard fierce arguments around the accusations the president faces related to the US dollars stolen from his private residence on his Phala Phala farm in Limpopo.
