- Two men have been arrested for the murder of Megan Griesel.
- Police say the men were arrested in Masoyi and Kanyamazane last week.
- Griesel was killed when her car was peppered with bullets as she unknowingly drove past the scene of a robbery at a petrol station in Lydenburg.
Mpumalanga police have made a breakthrough with the arrest of two men for the brutal murder of Megan Griesel.
Police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the first suspect was arrested in Masoyi, outside White River, last Wednesday.
He said police followed up on leads and arrested the second suspect in Kanyamazane a day later.
"What is interesting about the second one is that he was reportedly found in possession of a firearm with ammunition during his arrest," Mdhluli said.
The two men, both aged 27, appeared in court on Friday. The case was postponed to 7 November.
"Due to the sensitivity and delicacy of this case, the identities of the suspects are withheld to prevent a situation which may jeopardise the investigation," he said.
Griesel, 20, was killed when her car was peppered with bullets as she unknowingly drove past the scene of a robbery at a petrol station in Lydenburg.
CCTV footage shared on social media showed a group of armed men jumping off a white bakkie at the petrol station.
Mdhuli said the men held staff at gunpoint.
"It is also alleged that the suspects detonated some explosives to gain access to the drop safe then took an undisclosed amount of cash as well as some cigarettes."
The suspects are said to have then proceeded to a nearby shopping centre and pounced on another petrol station, where they stole another undisclosed sum of money and cigarettes.
"From there, it is said that they [suspects] moved and attacked a liquor store belonging to a reputable supermarket in the same shopping complex.
"It transpired that the suspects forcefully gained entry through the main door and helped themselves to various items, including expensive beverages and some cigarettes," Mdhuli said.
It was here that Griesel was shot and killed.
Mdhuli said police were working around the clock to ensure the arrest of remaining suspects.
