A mysterious man who chartered the ski-boat, captained by John Matambu, apparently had a dying wish to be out in the ocean for one last time.
According to one of Matambu's relatives, the unidentified man was out drinking at a local bar in Sodwana Bay with KwaZulu-Natal skipper Matambu and other skippers the night before, and told them that he was terminally ill.
"He was apparently seen at the local bar with all the skippers the night before, claiming that his last wish was to be on the sea for a couple of hours with his family as he is allegedly terminally ill," Matambu's niece, Candice Eilertsen, told News24.
