The non-profit company that jointly tests water with the eThekwini Municipality says safety at Durban beaches cannot be guaranteed.

Director of Adopt-a-River Janet Simpkins, who has been water sampling the city's rivers and ocean with independent lab Talbot, the Art of Water, for two years, says the public has to remain cautious before taking a dip this holiday.

In October eThekwini began joint sampling for transparency with Talbot and Adopt-A-River.
