Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) students bid farewell to second-year engineering student Thabelo Mbau, who died after an alleged police assault on Saturday.

Mfundo Masombuka, regional spokesperson for the ANC Youth League, told News24 that students attended a memorial service, held ahead of Mbau's burial in Venda, at the institution's Emalahleni campus on Thursday.

"Parents are not supposed to bury their children. It's disappointing when children return from university pregnant or having impregnated, and how much more when they come back in a body bag, and you have to organise their funeral?" he said.
