The Cape chapter of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies has criticised the ANC in the Western Cape for hosting Hamas delegates, following the resumption of fighting in Hamas-ruled Gaza.

"This move not only tarnishes the reputation of the ANC, but also undermines the South African government's purported commitment to distancing itself from the visit by Hamas," the SAJBD said.

It added the visit contradicted South Africa's opposition to the abuse of women and children, and it questioned whether the ANC in the Western Cape had acted autonomously of the ruling party nationally.
