In CCTV footage shared on the social media platform X, the two men are seen walking casually around the SA Rugby offices at about 21:00.

At one point, one of the men is seen handling a trophy, confirmed to be a replica of the Webb Ellis Cup, but he leaves it and rifles through a cupboard below.

Parow police responded to the break-in at the office complex.

SARU said the real Webb Ellis Cup and other valuable trophies were untouched.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, said that Serious Violent Crimes Unit detectives had been hard at work pursuing several leads.

"As part of the elaborate investigation that extends beyond the borders of the Western Cape, two suspects have been apprehended in Gauteng and are being questioned with a view to apprehending the perpetrators of the act.

"Once charged, the pair will make a court appearance in Cape Town," she said.
