Ninety-three-year-old retired maths teacher Jo Hartman was dragged at least 200m by a massive wave that crashed into Leentjiesklip in Wilderness on Saturday, but the shock was too much for her body, her son has said.
"We have accepted it as a freak accident - it was an act of nature," said Paul Louw.
Speaking to News24 by telephone on Sunday, Louw added his mother loved the sea.
