The Department of Water and Sanitation says its six-month planned Lesotho water outage will not affect the 19 million people who are provided with water from Lesotho - unless the maintenance falls behind schedule.
Department spokesperson Wisane Mavasa said the Lesotho Highland Tunnel, which feeds water from the Lesotho Highlands Water Project to the Integrated Vaal River System (IVRS), would be closed from 1 October to 31 March 2025 for extensive maintenance and repair works.
The tunnel is a transfer tunnel linking Katse Dam with the Muela power station and Muela Dam, and a delivery tunnel linking Muela with the Ash River Outfall Works between the Clarens and Bethlehem system.
