A South African man wanted by Irish police for a double murder says he feels safer in a South African prison and remains opposed to an extradition request by Ireland.
On Wednesday, Neville van der Westhuizen, 41, took to the witness stand for the first time in the extradition inquiry against him, which is being heard in the Durban Regional Court.
He told magistrate Kevin Bruorton he had a brother who spent a short time in an Irish prison and had informed him about its conditions.
